# SOCS- 23rd Jan – Sleep

Your prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “close eyes and point.” When you’re ready to write your post, open a book, a newspaper, or whatever is handy and close your eyes and point. Whatever word or picture your finger lands on, make that the basis of your SoCS/JusJoJan post. Enjoy!

I am reading Khaled Hosseini’s “And the mountain echoed” currently. A wonderful book. I used that book for this prompt and my finger landed on the word “Sleep”. Certainly a favourite activity for many of us.

We take sleep for so granted especially when we are younger. I see that in my daughter who prides in sleeping late and at the same time I am struggling for sleep.

I am having good nights and bad nights. There are nights I sleep really well waking up energised. There are some nights when I wake up ,surprisingly most of the time at 3:19 AM. On comparatively good night I can go back to sleep and sleep really well.  Then there are those bad nights when I cant go back to sleep and remain awake till 6 AM and doze off to sleep only to be woken up by my alarm.  I hate those nights and they are pretty regular these days. Not sleeping well has an impact on my days. I am lethargic, cant bring myself to exercise and eat more and ruin my weight loss program.

I am trying to reduce those nights.  I meditate daily at least for 20 minutes.  I have learnt sleep meditation and it definitely helps.  I do not drink coffee after 5 PM as I have noticed it has impact on my sleep. I am trying not to use my phone two hours before sleep and I am failing regularly at that.

A good nights sleep is pure blessing and we all should work towards it.  Best luck and have a good night!

  1. I miss uninterrupted nights of sleep, right now. Feels like months since I slept straight through, with the thoughts and stresses of covid, and school, running through my mind all the time!

  2. I can relate to waking up at 3 something. It used to be 4 am for me and I’d use the time to meditate. Now my waking up is random. One thing I’ve noticed as I’ve gotten older is that caffeine takes longer to go through my system, so I try not to drink it after 2pm. Naps are wonderful!
